December 2014

Sierra de Chino Pano 1-Edit

Sunrise on Sierra de Chino along the River Road

This trip to Big Bend was taken December 10-15, 2014. There were two objectives: (1) ride the Epic mountain bike trail in Big Bend Ranch State Park, and (2) photograph scenes and wildflowers along the River Road and elsewhere in the national park.

My itinerary is here

The weather was almost perfect: mid-40s at night, upper 60s in the daytime. The mornings were foggy which both complicated and added to the photography.

For photos in the National park, a Nikon D300S camera was used with three different lenses: a Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens for wide angle and nighttime photos; a Nikkor AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens, and a Nikkor-Micro 70-180mm f/4.5-5.6 macro lens for the wildflower shots. During the bike ride in BBRSP, photos were taken with a Sony RSX100-III and iPhone 4S.

Wildflowers were surprisingly abundant with many species I had no photographed before. You can click here to see samples.
