Description Habitat: Sandy soils along roadsides, washes, dunes.
Plant: Erect annual 16 to over 30 inches tall; one or more stems, unbranched lower and branched near the top.
Leaves: Basal leaves up to 2 inches long, lanceolate, with toothed or lobed edges and petiolate; upper stem leaves usually ovate to narrowly oblong, rarely lanceolate, sessile, and less divided or smooth edges.
Inflorescence: Several to many blossoms in a dense terminal cluster, each up to 3/4-inch across with 4 white to lavender petals; base of the petal claw narrow, not spreading.
Fruit: Flat seed pods 1/3 to 3/8-inch across resembling spectacles.
Bloom Period: April to June.
