North Pacific Passage to Japan

Ocean Cruise from Vancouver to Tokyo via Alaska

Glacier Bay

From Juneau we headed north to Glacier Bay National Park, a huge park and preserve of 3.3 million acres that is only accessible by water or a float plane. National Park Service park rangers boarded our ship and provided a narrative about important aspects about the park, and staffed an information desk and mini gift shop.

We arrived on a cool, drizzly Thursday, the 18th. Our primary desination was to be the Grand Pacific Glacier at the head of the Tarr Inlet, but there was too much ice floating around so we turned around and headed to the Johns Hopkins Glacier nearby.
