Homer

On Monday, September 22, we arrived in Homer, a small city of about 5500 people on the far southwest point of the Kenai Peninsula. It is distinguished by the Homer Spit, a sandbar that juts out into the Kachemak Bay. This is where the Homer Boat Harbor is located and we docked here. We took a bus across the spit to the town 2 or 3 miles away to our tour stop, the Pratt Museum. This small museum has a number of exhibits depicting the history of the native and settler populations, traditions, sea life, local artwork and so forth.

After this we took the bus back toward the ship and stopped on the Spit. Here there are a number of shops, resturants and at least one bar, the Salty Dawg Saloon, the walls and ceilings of which are covered with thousands of dollar bills.
