| Description | Habitat: Caliche, rocky limestone soils in dry, open areas in desert scrub, dry creeks, roadsides and rocky slopes. Plant: Low, spreading, perennial, forming mats 8 to 24 inches across; numerous, hairy, leafy stems 2 to 10 inches long, older stems woody. Leaves: Densely hairy, silvery, ovate to elliptic leaves, 1/4 to 5/8-inch long and less than 1/3-inch wide; base and tips are obtuse to broadly acute, and the margins rolled under (revolute); on short petioles less than 1/4-inch long and often clustered at nodes along the stems. Inflorescence: Solitary light pink or rose to rarely white flowers, somewhat inconspicuous hidden in the leaves; usually sessile in leaf axils; funnel-shaped corolla about 1/3-inch long or less and about as wide with 5 spreading, broadly rounded lobes with erose margins. | Description |
Habitat: Limestone soils in dry, open desert scrub and rocky slopes. Plant: Rounded shrub usually about 1 ft tall, but may be taller, much-branched and compact. Leaves: Many hairy ovate to elliptic leaves, 1/3 inch long or less and and 1/4-inch wide or less. Inflorescence: Small magenta or pink funnel-shaped flowers in a cluster about 3/4-inch across surrounded by feathery, woolly calyx hairs; each blossom with 5 petals and about than 1/4-inch across. Blooming Period: May to September and after rains. Leaves: Clusters of narrow, linear (sometimes ovate or elliptic) leaves, less than 1/2 inch long and 1/16-inch wide; edges rolled under; moderately hairy surfaces. Plant: Mat-forming perennial up to several inches tall; hairy, branching stems, prostrate stems woody and whitish toward the base, reddish above. Leaves: Clusters of small, narrow, elliptic or ovate leaves with pointed bases and tips; about 3/8-inch long and 1/4-inch wide; surfaces very hairy. Inflorescence: Pink to magenta funnel-shaped flowers with 5 rounded, spreading lobes; from leaf axils; about 1/4-inch across. Blooming Period: March to June.
