Nighttime Photos

Next

Nighttime photos are a bit challenging, especially in the winter, and depending on what the objective is. The snow reflects light sources, especially the moon, so it’s usually best to choose a night with little or no moon if you want to capture any stars. On the other hand, city lights can provide some very nice images. The biggest challenges are (1) cold) and (2) access. Some of the places I normally go for night shots in the summer are inaccessible in the winter without snowshoeing.

Here are a few night shots taken around Breckenridge that turned out OK. All have been run through NIK Define 2 noise reduction software (noise can be another challenge).
