Antarctic Sound

As mentioned on the Hope Bay page, in the evening following our day in Hope Bay on December 14, we continued on our trip through the Antarctic Sound. The Sound is a body of water about 35 miles long and from 8 to 14 miles wide separating the Joinville Island group from the northeast end of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The route chosen by the Octantis captain was through a relatively narrow channel between one of the islands, Andersson, and the mainland. In the evening we continued on into the Weddell Sea on the east side of the Antarctic Peninsula and then to Vega Island.

Again, there were many stunning icebergs that evening.
