Le Baux-de-Provence

We visited Le Baux-de-Provence on an Alliance Schlumberger tour. The small town sits atop a rocky outcrop in the Alpiilles region of Provence, north west of Aix. Bauxite (aluminum ore) was once mined near here. The town is very small and is an immaculately clean tourist destination.  Near the town is an old quarry that has been converted to a venue for multimedia audio-visual shows. When we visited they were showing images of paintings by Marc Chagall, lighting the walls, ceilings and floors of the huge cavernous rooms.
